The world of performing arts is changing and the need for highly skilled administrators is growing. To meet this challenge, Boston University Metropolitan College (BU MET) in collaboration with Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment offers Graduate Certificates in Commercial Theater Development. This collaboration opens up exciting new opportunities for students to engage with one of the most vibrant sectors of the arts.

BU MET Has the Right Commercial Theater Development Program to Bring Your Career to the Next Level:

  • Graduate Certificate in Commercial Theater Development – the four-course, 16-credit program is available online and on campus.
  • Advanced Graduate Certificate in Commercial Theater Development – the six-course, 20-credit program includes a semester-long internship opportunity with a renowned commercial performing arts enterprise, either in the US or on the international stage. All courses except the internship are available online and on campus.
  • Graduate Certificate in Commercial Theater Development Accelerated Summer Institute – the four-course, 16-credit program can now be earned in an accelerated, 10-week summer institute format, including a field trip to New York City to meet with Broadway professionals. The summer institute is open to both domestic US students and to international students. If desired, students can choose from a range of on-campus housing and dining plans.
    The Summer 2025 session will run from Friday, May 30 – Sunday, August 3, 2025, with classes primarily held during evenings and weekends. The New York City Field Trip will be held Monday, July 7 – Thursday, July 10, 2025. For more information, please contact artsad@bu.edu.

Advance Your Career as a Leader in the Performing Arts

The Commercial Theater Development Graduate Certificate program is offered in partnership with Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, one of the world’s leading commercial theater companies. Offered as part of MET’s long-running programs in Arts Administration, the certificate program is taught by veterans of the Broadway theater scene who lead students through the challenges and approaches to developing and marketing a commercial performing arts property. Classes are taught at Boston University and include site visits with theater industry leaders in New York City and culminate with an internship with a commercial performing arts enterprise in New York or abroad.
